We’re pleased to announce that we are partnered with Healthy Pets, the UK’s leading online pet insurance provider for cats and dogs.
If you’re a proud pet owner, you’re not alone.
One in two of us now share our home with a pet. That means there are over 20 million pets in the UK, and that number keeps going up.
For many pet owners, being told their beloved Fido is ‘just a dog’ would trigger a look of disbelief. Pets are truly part of the family, and treated as such. For our family members, only the best protection will do in case of an accident or illness.
Healthy Pets have been offering pet insurance for cats and dogs in the UK since 1996. With 6 levels of cover available ranging from accident-only to lifetime protection, there are plenty of options to choose from.
Why is pet insurance important?
According to the PDSA Paw report, only 61% of dogs and 39% of cats in the UK are insured. While these numbers are on the rise, not having pet insurance can have serious consequences should your furry friend fall ill or have an accident.
Unfortunately, there is no NHS for pets, which means that pet owners are responsible for paying for any and all veterinary care that their pets may need. It can be tempting to put off taking out pet insurance as it may feel like an unnecessary cost, especially for experienced pet owners who have never had to seek urgent veterinary care for their pets, but it is better to be covered and not need it, than to need it but not be covered.
The average lifetime cost for owning a pet comes in at around £10,000, and this figure rises with larger dog breeds which sit around £21,000 over their lifetime. Around £4,000 of this cost will be due to routine vet bills that cover vaccinations, check-ups, flea treatments and worming, for both dogs and cats. Treatment for accidents or illnesses can range from a few hundred pounds to a few thousand, and the problem arises when those costs are unexpected.
The bottom line is that pets aren’t cheap and it’s not easy to pre-empt an accident or illness, so it’s vital to ensure you have the right cover for your pet.
